Kevin Sumlin gets raise, contract extension from Texas A&M

Kevin Sumlin exceeded expectations in his first year at Texas A&M, and the school rewarded him and his assistant coaches for it on Saturday.

Texas A&M Aggies head football coach Kevin Sumlin will receive a raise and contract extension, pending approval from the school’s board of regents, the program announced on Saturday.

Sumlin led the Aggies to an 11-2 record in 2012, including a victory over the eventual national champion, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and produced a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in Johnny Manziel. In short, A&M's season was a very bright one, and the future appears to be just as shiny for the SEC newcomers.

In addition to Sumlin’s personal reward, the school also agreed to increase the salaries for the team’s assistant coaches.

Sumlin arrived at Texas A&M prior to the 2012 season, after spending four years as the head coach of the Houston Cougars. There, he amassed a 35-17 record, including 12-win season in 2011 that was capped off with a win over Penn State in the TicketCity Bowl.

Sumlin has a 3-1 career record in bowl games after the Aggies’ 41-13 dismantling of Oklahoma in the 2013 Cotton Bowl.
