Hakeem Flowers leaving N.C. State, according to report

The redshirt freshman is leaving the Wolfpack with slimmer depth at wide receiver, but the team should be able to survive going forward.

Rob Kinnan-US PRESSWIRE

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Hakeem Flowers has left the N.C. State program, according to a tweet from Pack Pride. Flowers was a three-star recruit out of Greenville, S.C. and chose the Wolfpack over Oregon, UCLA, Michigan, and Florida State. After redshirting for the 2011 season, Flowers failed to make an impact on the field in 2012.

Flowers' departure is a blow to N.C. State's receiving depth going forward, but not one that they cannot overcome. The team is losing two of their top four pass catchers from 2012 in Tobias Palmer and Mario Carter, but bring back Quintin Payton (51 receptions, 798 yards, two touchdowns) and Bryan Underwood (44 receptions, 620 yards, 10 touchdowns). Their top tight end, Asa Watson, will also be returning to the team for 2013.

The Wolfpack also did a good job throwing to their running backs last year. Shadrach Thornton and Tony Creecy are both underclassmen, and both hauled in at least 30 receptions last year. However, they will be without the recently departed and very tall Mike Glennon, who is off to the NFL.
