Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Phillip Ely may transfer to South Florida, according to Josh Newberg at Bulls247.

Ely, a redshirt freshman from Tampa, Fla., appeared in six games for the Crimson Tide, serving as a backup to starting quarterback A.J. McCarron. Ely completed three out of four pass attempts in 2012, and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass in Alabama's win over Mississippi State.

Ely could compete for playing time at South Florida with freshman quarterback Matt Floyd, who completed just 51.8 percent of his passes and threw five interceptions without a touchdown in part-time duty. B.J. Daniels saw the majority of the playing time as a senior, throwing for 2,075 yards and 14 touchdowns for the 3-9 Bulls.

Meanwhile, Alabama would still have six quarterbacks on the roster if Ely were to depart, including McCarron, who just finished his junior season.
