Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson may be a sophomore starting in the BCS National Championship game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday night, but what he'd really like to do down the line is suit up on the hardwood for the Fighting Irish.

In a report from Gerry Ahern of the USA Today on Friday, Golson talked about his first sporting love during a National Championship press conference on Friday morning:

“Basketball is my love. My primary (focus) right now is football. But I would like to have the chance of playing basketball someday here.”

Golson intended to be a dual sport athlete in college to begin with, as he originally committed to play both football and basketball with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Due to NCAA violations, however, Golson changed his mind and switched commitments to Notre Dame.

As Golson and the Fighting Irish are one game away from a national title at one of college football’s most storied programs, he mentioned in the report that he has spoken to Notre Dame head basketball coach Mike Brey in the past about any potentially playing basketball. Golson also noted, though, that the discussions have not been serious to this point.
