2013 BCS National Championship injury report: Nearly full strength for Alabama, Notre Dame

Barrett Jones and Denzel Devall are likely to play against Notre Dame Monday.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Both Notre Dame and Alabama are nearly injury-free entering Monday night’s BCS National Championship Game in Miami. Notre Dame has no injury news of note. But as Andrew Gribble of AL.com reported this week, Alabama has a handful of injury concerns.

Rimington Trophy-winning center Barrett Jones has been wearing a protective boot on his left foot due to an injury suffered during the SEC Championship Game. Jones says he will be ready to go against Notre Dame, but has participated in just two bowl preparation practices:

“It feels great,” said Jones, who won the Rimington Trophy as the country’s top center. “I’ve been able to practice for a few practices. I think the first day I was certainly a little rusty, and on the second day I was a little less rusty. I think it helps that I’ve started 49 games [in his Alabama career]. I’m ready to roll.”

Crimson Tide linebacker Denzel Devall is practicing despite a knee injury that has him at less than 100 percent, according to Gribble. Devall suffered the injury during a field goal drill in bowl preparation. He admits he overreacted after suffering the injury, mostly due to the number of season-ending knee injuries Alabama had suffered this season:

“I was just thinking, ‘Dang, another person down,’” Devall said during Saturday’s Media Day at Sun Life Stadium. “It was kind of scary, but when I got the results and stuff, it was all good.”

Wide receiver Kenny Bell was in a no-contact jersey, but was moving more fluidly at Thursday’s practice, according to Gribble. Nose guard Jesse WIlliams appears to be recovered from a knee injury, though safety Jerrick Williams’ participation Monday looks unlikely.
