Luke Joeckel likely leaving Texas A&M for NFL Draft, says ESPN

The Aggies’ junior left tackle is projected to be an early first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M offensive lineman Luke Joeckel is expected to declare for the NFL Draft sometime Tuesday, according to ESPN's Joe Schad. Joeckel is widely considered one of the best offensive line prospects in the country, and was one of the major pieces to an Aggie offense that was 4th in the nation in scoring offense this year at 44.5 points per game.

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft has Joeckel going off the board at the fourth overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles, and also as the first offensive lineman off the board. Fellow A&M tackle Jake Matthews is projected at 11th overall to the San Diego Chargers, but there is a good chance Matthews stays in College Station for another season.

There was some doubt in recent days whether Joeckel would declare for the draft, as Texas A&M will have a good chance to make a run for the national championship in 2013. However, it’s hard to begrudge someone for turning pro when they’re expected to be drafted so early.
