If the government shutdown forces Duke’s Oct. 12 home game against Navy to be canceled, the school may try to set up a game on that day with Fresno State, according to a report from Adam Gold of 99.9 FM The Fan in Raleigh, N.C. The Department of Defense on Tuesday suspended all intercollegiate athletic events at the service academies, leaving the fates of several games up in the air.
If Navy game canceled due to shutdown, Duke could play Fresno State
The government shutdown could potentially lead to a meeting between the Bulldogs and Blue Devils.

Fresno State has a bye week on Oct. 12, so it can accept an impromptu road trip if it is so inclined. Additionally, the Bulldogs are already a game short since their game at Colorado on Sept. 14 was canceled because of massive flooding in Boulder.
Colorado recently replaced Fresno State with Charleston Southern, an FCS school. It might be a good idea for Fresno State to jump at an opportunity to add an FBS opponent considering its BCS aspirations, even if it is just Duke. The Bulldogs also have an open date on Nov. 16 that they could use to add a game.
