Following Thursday's practice, Gamecock defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward gave the latest on Jadeveon Clowney's recovery from a bruised rib that held him out of last week's game against Kentucky. While some have interpreted his comments as a definitive statement that his star defensive end will play, it's not quite set in stone.
Jadeveon Clowney might start for South Carolina vs. Arkansas, per coach
South Carolina’s coaches update the injury status of their star defensive end.
If he’s healthy, he’s gonna start. He’s practiced two days in a row, and I think he’s getting better every day. I visited with [head trainer] Clint Haggard earlier today, and he had already been in treatment twice. He’s doing everything he can to get ready to play... I think he’ll play based on what we’ve seen the last two days.
During his weekly call-in show on Thursday evening, Steve Spurrier spoke in slightly less optimistic tones about Clowney’s availability on Saturday:
Jadeveon Clowney still "questionable" Steve Spurrier says on call-in show.

We probably won't know anything more about whether or how much Clowney will play against Arkansas until the starting lineups are announced over the PA system at Razorback Stadium on Saturday. If Clowney is unable to play, redshirt freshman Darius English is likely to get the most of the snaps relinquished by the all-everything defensive end. English has eight tackles and 0.5 sacks so far this year.
