South Carolina AD calls Finebaum’s comments ‘unprofessional, hateful’

At the moment, Ray Tanner isn’t pleased that the radio host is going to be a big part of the upcoming SEC Network

ESPN Radio host Paul Finebaum called out Jadeveon Clowney for the ongoing injury controversy surrounding the star lineman's rib, and South Carolina's athletic director is livid about it.

Finebaum called Clowney "the biggest joke in college football" this week after Clowney sat out against Kentucky and speculation swirled that he was sitting out to protect his NFL Draft stock. Gamecock AD Ray Tanner told the State that he would call SEC Commissioner Mike Slive to complain about Finebaum's comments. From the State:

“It was really a hateful comment,” Tanner told The State at halftime of Saturday’s game against Arkansas. “It was inappropriate. It was unprofessional, and it was unnecessary. I don’t know how you make any kind of comment about a student-athlete along those lines.”

[...]

“My understanding is he will be a part of the network going forward, and there are 13 other ADs in the SEC, and I am not so sure they feel much differently than I feel about the situation,” Tanner said. “Analyze, investigate, speculate. I understand that from the media, but to call out a student-athlete in the fashion he did is inappropriate.”

Finebaum will appear frequently on the SEC Network, which is launching next year.

Clowney started South Carolina’s game against Arkansas, but the ongoing controversy surrounding his, and South Carolina’s, handling of the injury doesn’t seem to be calming down anytime soon.
