How to watch Florida vs. LSU 2013: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more

Can LSU continue their prolific scoring against the vaunted Gator defense?

This week’s can’t miss SEC matchup sees No. 10 LSU host No. 17 Florida in Baton Rouge. Television coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Tigers enter the game 5-1, with non-conference wins against TCU, UAB and Kent State. In conference play, they beat Auburn by two touchdowns, lost at Georgia by three points, and are fresh off a dominating win against Mississippi State. LSU has a new-look offense that has been a big force in the new surge of strong SEC offenses -- they are scoring 45.5 points per game (ranked ninth in the country) and have a balanced attack with multiple offensive weapons.

For LSU, safety Craig Loston, wide receiver Jarvis Landry, and outside linebacker Tahj Jones are all expected to play.

Florida is 4-1 and tied for first place in the SEC East with a perfect 3-0 record in conference play. After a 24-6 win over Toledo started out the season, the Gators fell on the road to Miami, 21-16. Since then, they’ve been dominant, defeating Tennessee (31-17), Kentucky (24-7) and Arkansas (30-10) despite a lack of any consistent offensive presence. The Gators sport one of the top defenses in the country, and will look to shut down the LSU passing attack.

The numbers

Rankings and records: LSU is ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the Coaches’ Poll. Florida is ranked No. 17 in both polls. The Tigers are 5-1 with a 2-1 record in conference play, while Florida is 4-1 with a 3-0 record in SEC action. The Gators have a 31-25-3 lead in the all-time series, and have won three of the last four games between the schools.

Vegas: LSU is a seven-point favorite, with an over/under of 47.5 points. OddsShark has more.

Weather: A high of 85 and partly cloudy.

Three names to know

Zach Mettenberger. The quarterback has had a fantastic year, and has thrown 15 touchdowns on 11.1 yards per attempt. He’ll have to deal with perhaps the best secondary in the nation in Florida, but Mettenberger is in the elite class of quarterbacks who can handle that.

Jeremy Hill. Just in case he can’t, Mettenberger can instead rely on Hill, the Tigers’ running back who is averaging 7.5 yards per carry and has nine touchdowns already on the year.

Vernon Hargreaves III. The Gators have a group of NFL-ready defensive backs, and perhaps the best of the bunch has been the freshman Hargreaves, who has three interceptions and five passes broken up this year.

Two things at stake

Florida faces a tough stretch of three ranked SEC teams in a row, and a win here would give them a big boost heading into games against Missouri and Georgia.

LSU already has one SEC loss, and a second would likely knock them out of the title hunt.
