No. 7 Georgia vs. No. 25 Missouri final score: Tigers stun Dawgs, 41-26

A shoulder injury for star QB James Franklin tempers joy after historic road win.

Kevin C. Cox

What looked like No. 25 Missouri’s toughest game of the season turned into its biggest road win in decades, as Missouri won 41-26 over No. 7 Georgia for the Tigers’ first road win at a Top 10 foe since October 1981. Yes, that’s 32 years.

The victory, glorious as it was for Missouri, came at a heavy cost as QB James Franklin left the game in the fourth quarter after sustaining a shoulder injury. He had previously had that right throwing shoulder operated upon and he had ice strapped to it as he left the sidelines after the game, so this has the potential to be a season-changer for the Tigers.

Nonetheless, Missouri deserves mountains of credit for staving off Georgia (banged up as the Bulldogs were), especially in Sanford Stadium, and it’s no small feat to score the last two touchdowns of the game to put the game away like Missouri did. Make no mistake: this is an enormous win. Hats off.

Box Score Hero: L’Damian Washington was the man of the match with seven catches for 115 yards and two scores, including his game-changing 40-yard catch on the double-pass in the fourth quarter.

Rankings Ramifications: Georgia really should have won this game, but it’s probably only (“only”) in for a drop of about five or six spots with this being just the first conference loss of the year. Meanwhile, Missouri just won at the No. 7 team in the nation by 15 points and it still has that sexy unbeaten record, so don’t be surprised if you see the Tigers up around No. 15 or so, a 10-spot swing. Some voters may put Mizzou above Georgia on principle (completely fair), but an 18-spot differential might be too big a gap for Missouri to make up in one week.

But Did They Cover? Georgia was a 7-point favorite at kickoff, so while this isn’t a catastrophic upset, it’s still a pretty big deal.
