The LSU Tigers prevailed over the Florida Gators, 17-6, in an ugly slugfest in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The Tigers rode two touchdowns in the second quarter, and were able to sit on the Gators for the second half and secure the win.
No. 10 LSU vs. No. 17 Florida results: Tigers choke out the Gators, 17-6
The Tigers did just enough to keep the Gators at bay, and picked up the win as a result.

Florida actually opened the scoring with a 44 yard field goal from Francisco Velez in the first quarter, but LSU firmly took control of the game with two touchdown runs from J.C. Copeland and Anthony Jennings in the second quarter, taking a 14-3 lead into halftime. In the second half, the two teams traded field goals, but despite their best efforts, weren't able to find their way into the end zone. It was very much a defensive struggle, and a rather dour one at that.
The Gators offense struggled to find traction all day against LSU, and they never really found it. LSU was hardly an offensive juggernaut in their own right, but Jeremy Hill did break the 100 yard mark, which is a huge accomplishment against the Florida defense.
Box Score Hero:
Jeremy Hill has to be the pick. He rushed for 121 yards on 19 carries, and averaged 6.4 yards per carry along the way against possibly the best defense in the country.
Rankings Ramifications:
LSU entered the game ranked 10th in the AP poll and 11th in the USA Today poll, and Florida was ranked 17th in both polls. The Tigers should rise with a win over a ranked opponent, while the Gators will drop, but stay within the top 25.
But Did They Cover?
LSU came into the game as 8.5-point favorites, so they covered the spread.
