The Gators scored first, as Francisco Velez hit a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter, but two second quarter LSU touchdowns gave the Tigers a margin more than big enough to secure victory. A pair of one-yard runs -- one from J.C. Copeland, one from Anthony Jennings -- were the two scoring plays.
Andy Hutchins of Alligator Army was impressed with the Gators’ resilience, but said the team has much to improve on.
Nothing came easy for these Gators today, nor will it for much of the rest of their year, but they did not despair and did not wilt when the ease of the last few games on their schedule gave way to a heavyweight bout against a foe capable of landing body blows. You don’t win fights by standing and trading with better teams -- and LSU is better than Florida -- but you can earn respect.

It wasn’t the kind of game that impresses the neighbors, but that was LSU football. The defense repeatedly answered the call, making stop after stop in the second half while the offense sort of sputtered. It was like watching the “old” LSU team. Just as we got used to a high flying offense and a defensive sieve, the offense was quiet in the second half while the defense made all of the big plays.
