Texas Tech vs. WVU 2013 final score: Red Raiders still perfect after road win

Texas Tech scored the last 21 points of the game in its 37-27 victory in Morgantown, preserving its undefeated record.

A spirited upset bid by the West Virginia Mountaineers stalled out in the fourth quarter, and Texas Tech rallied for a big-time 30-27 win in Morgantown to preserve its perfect record.

West Virginia used a touchdown by Dreamius Smith to go up 27-16 with 4:36 left, and the Mountaineers faithful were smelling upset -- and legit contention in the crowded Big 12. But Texas Tech’s usually porous defense put the clamps down at that point, allowing all of one first down in the Mountaineers’ last five drives combined. That’s how you put a game away, and that’s why Tech is still undefeated.

Box Score Hero: Give some congratulations to Davis Webb, who annihilated the Mountaineers for 36 of 50 passing, 462 yards and a pair of scores, including a clincher with about a minute to go.

Rankings Ramifications: What to do with Texas Tech is now an interesting question. The Red Raiders are now 7-0 on the year, but coming into the week only at No. 16 and the only opponent of any merit was TCU. Tech still probably needs losses from teams above it before it starts rising -- beating a sub-.500 team doesn’t impress voters -- but the schedule’s about to get legit in a hurry, and the rankings will move appropriately.

But Did They Cover? After some late line movement toward the Mountaineers, Texas Tech came into the game a 4-point favorite over West Virginia. That’s a cover.
