Connor Shaw injury: South Carolina starting QB strains left knee

The Gamecocks’ quarterback wound up pinned beneath a mountain of Volunteers.

South Carolina Gamecocks starting quarterback Connor Shaw suffered an apparent knee injury in the fourth quarter against Tennessee. While he was being brought down by two Vols, his knee twisted awkwardly, and he appeared to be in immediate pain. ESPN’s reporting it’s a left knee strain, and he’s out for the game.

Shaw has played in 38 games at South Carolina, starting for most of the past two-and-a-half seasons.

There’s been no official announcement yet as to his status after Saturday, but it’s not looking great. Shaw’s been replaced for the time being by Dylan Thompson, who’s experienced in this sort of situation, with 1,588 yards worth of offense over the last two seasons.

Shaw’s had a history of bad injury luck. This year, he was expected to miss at least two weeks after suffering a right shoulder injury against UCF, but he ended up taking the field for South Carolina’s next game.
