NIU’s Jordan Lynch breaks college record for QB rushing yards in a game

The explosive Northern Illinois signal-caller was absolutely unstoppable against Central Michigan.

Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch set a new single-game college football record for rushing yards by a quarterback on Saturday, rushing for 316 yards in the Huskies' 38-17 win over Central Michigan. The former record-holder is another NIU player, Stacey Robinson, who set the mark in 1990.

Lynch racked up those 316 yards on 32 carries, and also rushed for three touchdowns. 32 carries is a pretty big number, but he still averaged an absurd 9.9 yards per carry, even with that workload. He only threw for 155 yards, but when you’re going that well on the ground, why even mess with passing?

The Huskies, who now stand at 7-0 and 3-0 in the MAC, are quietly making a repeat edition of their BCS-busting 2012 season. Lynch’s performance in this game may help to get the chatter going a little bit louder on this team.
