Navy erroneously announces Air Force game to be played

Navy proclaimed the Air Force game is on despite the ongoing federal government dispute. That proclamation was premature.

Update: Navy’s original announcement was deleted and replaced with this:

Someone’s in trouble.

Original story: Good news for fans of service academy football and the triple option:

Tuesday, the Department of Defense suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at service academies as a result of the government shutdown, which would’ve prevented Air Force and Army from fulfilling their travel obligations this Saturday. While we don’t know the full specifics of what’s enabling the game to be played, multiple outside parties have offered to help make sure the schedule remains intact.

Had the Air Force-Navy game been canceled, it could've been made up in early December. But if it hadn't have been, it could've cost the host, Navy, as much as $4 million in revenue. No worries now.

Air Force-Navy is set for 11:30 a.m. ET on CBS. Army-Boston College will be on ESPN3 at 1 p.m. ET.
