Alabama assistant suspended for loaning player money, according to report

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is suspended because of a loan he apparently received from an assistant strength coach over the summer.

Alabama assistant strength and conditioning coach Corey Harris was placed on administrative leave because he provided impermissible benefits to safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, according to a report from Tommy Deas and Aaron Suttles of TideSports.com. Clinton-Dix was suspended indefinitely Wednesday for what at the time was an unspecified violation of team rules.

Harris reportedly loaned Clinton-Dix an amount less than $500 during the summer, in violation of NCAA rules. Clinton-Dix told the Alabama compliance department that he repaid Harris and provided bank statements which list a withdrawal consistent with the total he said he repaid.

The compliance department found that Harris had “a connection to a representative of a sports agent” during its investigation, per the report. There is no evidence of interaction between an agent or agent representative and Clinton-Dix.

Nick Saban has in the past been outspoken about the conduct of sports agents, equating them to pimps.

Alabama also has been investigating allegations levied in a Yahoo! Sports report that former offensive lineman D.J. Fluker received impermissible benefits while a member of the Crimson Tide. Fluker played for Alabama's 2012 national title team.
