Jerry Kill suffers seizure, will miss Michigan game

Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys will be the head coach as Kill recovers.

Minnesota will be without head coach Jerry Kill after he suffered a seizure early Saturday morning. Kill, who has epilepsy, also suffered a seizure during halftime of the New Mexico State game just a couple weeks ago and missed the rest of that game.

Here’s the announcement from Minnesota’s athletic department:

Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill is at home in Minneapolis and will not be on the sideline for today’s game against Michigan. Coach Kill was not feeling well on Friday morning and decided to meet the team in Ann Arbor on Saturday. He then suffered a seizure on Saturday morning and will remain at home in Minnesota for today’s game.

Coach Kill has been in contact with his staff today and defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys will serve as Minnesota’s acting head coach from the press box.

This is the fifth known seizure event for Kill since he took over the Minnesota job in 2011. The events are generally not life-threatening but are serious enough to require periods of rest and recovery.
