Minnesota’s Jerry Kill resting at home after latest seizure

After suffering a seizure during his team’s game, Minnesota’s head coach is resting comfortably.

Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach Jerry Kill is resting comfortably at his home after suffering a seizure during Minnesota's 29-12 win over Western Illinois Saturday, via a school release.

“Coach Kill suffered a seizure at the end of the first half of today’s game against Western Illinois. He was attended to by medical personnel on the field and was then driven to a local hospital as a precaution to ensure proper medication levels. He is resting comfortably. Coach Kill’s staff, which is the most tenured in the nation, and his team are well acquainted with his condition and are prepared if a situation like this arises. Coach Kill’s epilepsy has been documented by both local and national media and our fans are aware that situations like this can happen.”

It’s Kill’s fourth seizure in 22 games as Minnesota’s head coach. He took over the program in 2011, and led the Golden Gophers to their first bowl game in three years last season. Minnesota is now 3-0 on the year -- the Gophers’ second straight year with such a start (they won four in a row to start out 2012 before losing six of their last eight).

Some columnists have suggested Kill’s health is not his own personal choice, instead surmising that the comfort of television watchers is more important. Kill has previously publicly refused to let his disease beat him, and has used it to help others.
