Ole Miss vs. Auburn final score: Tigers pull off upset with 30-22 win

Auburn pulled off a big conference win with a victory over the visiting Rebels.

Ole Miss’s promising start to the season has come crumbling down thanks to their two Alabama SEC foes, as the Rebels lost to Auburn, 30-22, a week after falling to Alabama.

The Tigers took an early lead on a Tre Mason one-yard touchdown, but a failed two-point conversion meant the ensuing Rebel field goal closed the gap to just three points. Bo Wallace was unable to capitalize after that, however, throwing a pass right to Auburn defender Robenson Therezie, who returned it 78 yards for the score. Nick Marshall followed up with a five-yard touchdown run, making it 20-3 Auburn.

Ole Miss hit two more field goals, shortening the deficit to 11 points, but Auburn scored another touchdown, as Marshall ran for five yards again.

Wallace seemed to have his game back, completing a 49-yard touchdown toss to Donte Moncrief in the third quarter to make it 27-16. Midway through the fourth, he found Moncrief for a 13-yard score, but the two-point conversion failed and the Auburn lead stayed at five.

Cody Parkey hit a 23-yard field goal with about three minutes to play, giving the Tigers the 30-22 lead. Ole Miss had one last opportunity to tie it, but Auburn sacked Bo Wallace for the fifth and sixth time on third and fourth down, ending the Rebels’ chances.

Box Score Hero: Nick Marshall. The Auburn quarterback completed 11 of 17 passes for just 93 yards, but ran 14 times for 140 yards and two scores.

Rankings Ramifications: Ole Miss was ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll and was the first team out of the Coaches Poll. Auburn did not receive votes in either.

But Did They Cover? Ole Miss was a three-point favorite, so they did not.
