South Carolina Gamecocks star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is not dressed for Saturday night's game against Kentucky and won't play because of bruised ribs, per multiple reports. This is the first game Clowney will miss this season.
Jadeveon Clowney injury: Gamecocks DE out with bruised ribs
Clowney is sitting out the Kentucky game.
The rib injury kept Clowney from participating in practice on Thursday but at the time it was not expected to keep him from playing against the Wildcats. Clowney has battled a number of setbacks this season, including bone spurs in his right foot and flu-like symptoms.
Even without Clowney, South Carolina should be fine against the Wildcats, who are just 1-3 this season and still have a long way to go in order to be competitive in the SEC. The Gamecocks are already out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter, thanks to a 62-yard touchdown pass from Connor Shaw to Damiere Byrd and a Mike Davis touchdown run.
