Washington vs. Stanford 2013 final score: Cardinal hang on for 31-28 win
The Huskies nearly stole one on the road, but Stanford held on for the win to improve to 5-0.

Despite leading nearly the entire game, the Stanford Cardinal got all they could handle from the Washington Huskies before ultimately surviving by a score of 31-28.
Stanford jumped out to a 10-point lead and the Cardinal were in control for most of the game, but were never able to put away the Huskies. They led by 10 points on several occasions, yet Washington just kept hanging around.
The Huskies cut the lead to three points four different times. The problem for Washington was that Stanford responded quickly on the first three occasions. The Huskies made it a 10-7 game and Stanford responded with a touchdown 52 seconds later. Washington cut the lead to 17-14 and Stanford promptly drove 67 yards for a touchdown. The Huskies cut the lead to 24-21 and Stanford scored a touchdown 1:42 later.
Down 10, the Huskies appeared on their way to a score before a Keith Price pass was batted up in the air and intercepted by Stanford. The Cardinal, however, were unable to capitalize and gave the ball back to Washington shortly after. This time Washington took advantage, driving 79 yards in 1:30 to make it a 31-28 game with 2:38 to play.
Stanford milked the clock and forced Washington to burn timeouts. On a 3rd-and-1, Kevin Hogan kept the ball on a bootleg but was stopped short of the first down. That gave Washington one final drive to tie or win the game. Washington moved the ball and appeared to pickup a crucial first down on a 4th-and-10. The play was initially ruled a catch for the first down, but officials overturned the call on a review, giving the ball back to Stanford. While it was close, it appeared the tip of the ball may have touched the ground.

Ty Montgomery did it all for Stanford. He caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown and made a huge contribution on special teams. Montgomery returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and finished the game with 204 return yards on four returns.
Rankings Ramifications:
Stanford is unlikely to move up from No. 5, but the win is a solid one for its resume. The Huskies will likely take a fall down at least a couple of spots, but proved their ranking was no fluke.
But Did They Cover?
Stanford opened as a 6-1/2-point favorite and while the Cardinal won the game, they failed to cover the spread.
