It appears the AP Poll went out on a bit more of a limb than the Coaches’ Poll last week, as five AP ranked teams (compared to three Coaches’ Poll teams) lost in a busy weekend of college football.
College football AP Top 25 poll, Week 7: Baylor, Florida State rise after big blowouts
The polls are starting to pay attention to the high-flying Baylor Bears and the star-powered Seminoles.

Here’s the latest Coaches Poll, which does factor into the BCS.
Alabama holds on to the No. 1 spot, while Northwestern and Washington drop despite close losses to top-five teams (Ohio State and Stanford, respectively). After just one week in the poll, Maryland falls out after a 63-0 drubbing at the hands of Florida State, while Baylor moves up after setting records in a 73-42 win over West Virginia.
Arizona State and Ole Miss both fall out after losses to unranked teams (Notre Dame and Auburn, respectively), while Northern Illinois moves in after their 5-0 start. Virginia Tech is in as well, after their fourth straight win and second over a Coastal competitor (Georgia Tech last week and North Carolina this week), as is the unbeaten Missouri Tigers, who have No. 7 Georgia up next.
As always, the AP Poll is your favorite poll that doesn’t matter. It is voted on by members of the media, who presumably have time to watch all of these games, but it does not count in the BCS rankings, which means it does not actually affect anything.
