Miami (Ohio) fires head coach Don Treadwell

After a dreadful 0-5 start, Treadwell is out in Oxford.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Miami (Ohio) has become the latest school to fire their head coach midseason, dismissing Don Treadwell, the school announced Sunday. An interim head coach is expected to be named shortly. [Update: quarterbacks and receivers coach Mike Bath is the RedHawks’ interim.]

The RedHawks have been one of the worst teams in the country, limping to an 0-5 start with an average defeat of 35.6-8.8. Miami (OH) has not scored more than 14 points in a game this season.

They opened MAC play with a 21-9 loss to Central Michigan Saturday, their closest margin of defeat this season.

Treadwell was hired by the school in 2011, and posted back-to-back 4-8 seasons in his first two years with the school. Over the two-plus years as head coach, he posted an 8-21 record.

Offensive coordinator John Klacik was also fired by the school.

The former head coach is an alumnus of Miami (Ohio), as he played wide receiver for the RedHawks from 1978-81. His second-ever coaching job was with the school from 1992-93, when he served as the running backs coach and wide receivers coach.

Treadwell came to the RedHawks from Michigan State, where he served as the offensive coordinator for four years. He also served as the Spartans’ interim coach for a pair of wins against Northern Colorado and Wisconsin while head coach Mark Dantonio recovered from a heart attack.
