Could Florida-LSU be the latest surprising SEC shootout?

The Gators think they can score big on an LSU defense that has struggled in recent weeks.

Sam Greenwood

The SEC of 2013 looks decidedly unlike the SEC of old, with high-scoring results between high-profile programs. This week, another Top 25 matchup between SEC schools could turn into a new-fashioned shootout, with Florida and LSU squaring off in Baton Rouge for an important conference showdown.

Florida has not been one of those high-flying SEC teams so far, scoring just 25 points per game and relying instead on its defense, but quarterback Tyler Murphy believes the Gators could put up big points against the Tigers.

Receiver Solomon Patton also told the media that he sees an opportunity for the Gator offense to potentially break through in this game.

LSU is scoring 45.5 points per game, good for ninth in the country, and Gator head coach Will Muschamp has taken notice.

Muschamp is prepared for a shootout, even if some of his defensive players might prefer a lower score.

Some other high-profile SEC showdowns that ended with a ton of points this year: Georgia 44, LSU 41; Georgia 41, South Carolina 30; and Alabama 49, Texas A&M 42.
