Syracuse’s top cornerback done for 2013 due to injury

Keon Lyn is out for the year with a lower-body injury.

Mark Konezny-US PRESSWIRE

Syracuse senior cornerback Keon Lyn will miss the remainder of the season due to a lower-body injury that requires surgery, the school announced Monday.

Lyn had 16 tackles in the school’s first year in the ACC, and last year had three interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. He also had seven pass breakups, a fumble forced and four tackles for loss in 2012.

The Orange’s already troubled pass defense will likely struggle even more without Lyn -- Syracuse ranks last in the ACC in the category by a wide margin, giving up 276 yards per game through the air (next closest is North Carolina at 238.8).

Sophomore Julian Whigham is expected to replace Lyn. He has two interceptions and six tackles this season.

The injury comes after a 49-14 home loss to Clemson in which Tajh Boyd passed for 455 yards and five touchdowns. The Orange play at North Carolina State Saturday. The Wolfpack are averaging 255 yards per game through the air this year, good for eighth in the conference.
