3 new bowl games (including Bahamas) to be for non-power conferences

Three new bowl games are reportedly being created for non-power conference schools, located in the Bahamas, Boca Raton (Fla.) and Miami, via ESPN. The games will start in 2014.

The game in the Bahamas will likely rotate between several sites with five different conferences sending teams -- Mountain West, MAC, C-USA, Sun Belt and American Athletic Conference -- according to CBS Sports.

This is a sensible move for these conferences, whose mid-level teams often have to rely on the failures of power conference schools to get a bowl invite. In 2012, Louisiana Tech went 9-3 and had the top offense in the country but did not make a bowl.

The Miami Bowl will have one team from the AAC and an additional team from one of the other four conferences listed above. The Boca Raton Bowl will have teams from the C-USA, MAC and AAC.

New bowls are likely also coming to Little Rock, Montgomery and Los Angeles, leaving us in full bowl overload. We’re now up to 40 bowl games, a truly ridiculous number that will result in more than 60% of college football teams playing postseason action.
