Virginia Tech vs. Miami 2013 reaction and highlights: Hokie offense surprises in blowout win

Miami hosted Virginia Tech Saturday night, as two of the top contenders for the ACC Coastal crown squared off at Sun Life Stadium in perhaps the most important game of the year for each team.

The Hokies put it away early in the fourth quarter when Trey Edmunds pounded in his fourth touchdown run of the game.

TrevorSGreene at Gobbler Country praised Thomas’s performance -- after two straight games with four turnovers, the quarterback held on to the ball and led his team to victory.

He had none in tonight’s game. Read that again. He had no turnovers. He did not try to force the ball to anyone. He took sacks when it was needed. Offhand, there was only one throwaway, but he was brilliant. He went through his progressions, hitting receivers in stride, hitting his check-downs, and dashing off for a new set of downs if it was absolutely necessary.

Jerry Steinberg at State of the U pointed to special teams errors as a reason for the blowout loss.

Coley and Artie Burns both fumbled after nice plays in the return game, setting up VT’s first two TD’s. The difference between good and great teams is often, finishing plays.

A bad snap forced punter Pat O’Donnell’s knee to hit the ground at the 17 yard line for turnover #3 (technically a turnover on downs). Poor weather aside, you just can’t afford to make these kind of errors in big games.
