Tajh Boyd blows up Georgia Tech’s secondary, Tigers lead 27-10 at halftime

Tajh Boyd wasted little time disposing of any concern that Clemson, after settling for a pair of field goals in the first quarter, would struggle to move the ball against Georgia Tech. The senior quarterback absolutely tore apart the Georgia Tech secondary, completing passes of 41, 47, and 76 yards within 8 minutes and 17 seconds of gameplay. Two of those long completions went for touchdowns, the other was stopped at the 4-yard line. But, even then, Boyd was not deterred, hooking up with Mike Williams on a fade route -- perhaps his best throw of the night -- on the very next play, putting Clemson up 20-0.

After the Georgia Tech offense showed no life whatsoever on its first four possessions, their senior tailback Robert Godhigh caught a swing pass and took off running for a 39-yard gain. Godhigh followed that up with a 32-yard run on the very next play, putting the Yellow Jackets right on the doorstep at Clemson's half-yard line. David Sims finished off the drive by plunging into the end zone to give Georgia Tech its first points of the evening.

Following the Yellow Jackets' touchdown, it briefly appeared as though they might have enough fight in them to give Clemson a game, but Boyd responded by hitting Martavis Bryant for a 76-yard touchdown pass to push the Tigers' lead back to 20. Boyd's connection with Bryant, his third touchdown of the night, gave him 96 career passing touchdowns, moving him past Phillip Rivers for the best mark in ACC history.
