Washington vs. UCLA highlights and reaction: Myles Jack stars in Bruins win

The Bruins’ linebacker and part-time running back took over in UCLA’s victory over Washington Friday.

UCLA built a 27-7 first half lead and outlasted Washington, 41-31, Friday night, keeping its hopes of a second consecutive Pac-12 South title alive. Bruins linebacker and part-time running back Myles Jack ran 13 times for 59 yards and four scores, becoming the first UCLA football player to score four touchdowns in one game since Maurice Jones-Drew scored five against the Huskies in 2004. Jack also recorded five tackles at linebacker.

After falling behind 27-7, Washington staged a second quarter comeback and narrowed the UCLA halftime lead to 27-17. However, quarterback Keith Price was injured late in the first half and did not return to the game. Backup Cyler Miles led a touchdown drive late to start the second half, bringing the Huskies within three points, but the freshman signal-caller threw a pair of crippling fourth quarter interceptions that ended any hope of a Huskies win.

Over at the victorious Bruins Nation, they were singing the praises of Myles Jack:

It’s kind of amazing to watch. The Jackpack formation became pretty predictable as the game continued, and yet the Huskies had no answer for the greatest Bruin freshman phenom from the Pacific Northwest since Kevin Love (but we get to have Jack for 3 years). He also became the first Bruin since MJD to have a 4 rushing TD in a game since 2004 when MJD ran for 5 against the Huskies in Seattle.

Meanwhile, at UW Dawg Pound, another freshman was the topic of conversation. The eight-catch, 147-yard performance of true freshman wideout Damore’ea Stringfellow turned some heads, as his career stat line entering Friday night included three catches for 20 yards:

Stringfellow busted out. A true freshman who had three career catches finished this game with a statline fit for a star: 8 catches, 148 yards and a TD. He also had a long touchdown pass called back for a questionable hands to the face penalty by Dexter Charles.

He is the perfect fit for a big, physical wideout to replace exactly what Kasen Williams gave the Huskies. No, he is not Williams. He does bring a similar skillset and has the ability to be Williams in the next couple of years.

UCLA faces Arizona State next week in a game that could decide the Pac-12 South race, while Washington looks to avoid a twelfth consecutive regular season with at least five losses if they can win at Oregon State.
