Oklahoma State vs. Texas results: Cowboys stomp Longhorns 38-13

OSU stakes its claim to a Big 12 title shot with a dominant win in Austin.

Two touchdowns in the last 78 seconds of the first half propelled Oklahoma State to a 38-13 win at Texas Saturday. Oklahoma State (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) remains in the Big 12 title hunt and sets up a de facto Big 12 title game against Baylor next week, while Texas (7-3, 6-1 Big 12) will need to win its last two conference games and get some help if they are to take the Big 12 title.

Oklahoma State methodically controlled the first half, even though it was not reflected on the scoreboard. With 3:39 left before the break, Texas halfback Malcom Brown rushed 7 yards for a score to narrow Oklahoma State’s lead to 14-10.

The next three minutes effectively ended the game. Oklahoma State quarterback Clint Chelf led the Cowboys to their third touchdown of the half, capping a six-play, 67-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Tracy Moore that should have been intercepted. Then, the Longhorns' attempt at a two-minute drill ended in disaster, when Justin Gilbert picked off a Case McCoy pass and returned it for a score. Mack Brown did not respond well:

The teams exchanged field goals to start the second half, but Chelf's second touchdown pass of the day -- a 21-yard throw to Charlie Moore -- put the game out of reach for a Texas offense increasingly reliant on the running game. McCoy threw three interceptions in total, leading to 14 Oklahoma State points.

Box Score Hero: Chelf posted one of his most complete games as a college quarterback. The senior completed 16 of 22 pass attempts for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Cowboys in rushing, racking up 95 yards on 10 carries and recording another two touchdowns in the process.

Rankings Ramifications: Oklahoma State, which entered the game at No. 12 and has been largely forgotten since its loss to West Virginia, could move back into the Top 10 with Saturday’s victory. Texas, which came in at No. 24, will fall out of the ratings.

But Did They Cover? Oklahoma State entered as a3-point favorite and covered with ease.
