College football news: Del Rio interviewed by USC, Ohio State tops Baylor in BCS

The Trojans appear to be stepping up their coaching search efforts as Ed Orgeron continues to win.

Week 12 of the college football season is now in the books. It seems like the season was just starting yesterday, there are just two Saturdays with full slates remaining. For some teams, that means it's time to focus on wrapping up conference play and preparing for the postseason. For others, like the USC Trojans, it's time to start thinking about the future a bit while still finishing out the year with a bang.

Let’s take a look at everything that made news on Sunday. (It was a slow day, but Monday’s headlines will show up right here.)

Jack Del Rio interviewed by USC for coaching job

Just a few days after it was reported USC could pay their next head coach $6 million annually, word came on Sunday morning that Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has interviewed for the job. It’s unclear if he was made an offer or not.

Del Rio played at USC in the 1980s as an All-American linebacker before turning to the NFL. He served as the Jaguars’ head coach from 2003-2011 and is currently serving as Denver’s interim head coach as John Fox recovers from heart surgery. He has no coaching experience of any kind at the college level.

In addition to Del Rio, Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin and former Bears coach Lovie Smith have been rumored as possible candidates for the job.

New BCS standings have Ohio State ahead of Baylor

Alabama and Florida State held strong at the top of the BCS as they continued their winning ways over the weekend. Some thought Baylor would be able to jump Ohio State after beating Texas Tech in convincing fashion, but that was not the case as the Buckeyes narrowly edged out the Bears. The computers tend to like Baylor more, but tOSU’s advantage in the human polls are currently giving them the advantage.

Stanford, who lost to USC on Saturday night, fell from fourth to ninth. Oregon, now squarely in the hunt to play in the Rose Bowl, rose one spot to No. 5. Auburn, Clemson and Missouri rounded out the rest of the top eight.

College GameDay headed to Baylor-Oklahoma State

With a couple of big top-25 matchups on the slate in Week 13, the College GameDay crew has decided to go to Stillwater, Okla., to host the showdown between No. 4 Baylor and No. 10 Oklahoma State.

The Big 12 doesn’t host a conference championship game anymore, but this could basically serve as one. There’s still a chance the Cowboys don’t win the conference if they beat Baylor -- they still have to face Oklahoma to close out the season -- but an upset win would go a long way toward getting Mike Riley’s boys to a BCS bowl game. A Bears win would not only improve them to 10-0 on the year, but it could also push them ahead of Ohio State for No. 3 (or higher) in the BCS.
