Arizona State vs. UCLA final score: Sun Devils clinch Pac-12 South title with 38-33 win

The Sun Devils have clinched their first division title, and did so in exciting fashion.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Spor

The Arizona State Sun Devils had to hold off a late rally by the UCLA Bruins, but they went into Pasadena and came away with a 38-33 win and the Pac-12 South title.

The Sun Devils got things started quickly, staking their claim to a 7-0 lead on a Taylor Kelly rushing touchdown less than three minutes into the game. It only took UCLA 16 seconds to respond, as Brett Hundley hit Devin Lucien for a 42-yard touchdown pass. The Bruins would move to a 10-7 lead, but that's where things got away from them. Arizona State scored two touchdowns in a one minute period around the beginning of the second quarter, and added another two in the final three minutes of the half to go into the break with a 35-13 lead.

UCLA didn’t give up, though. They outscored Arizona State 21-3 in the second half to make it a 38-33 game in the fourth quarter. The Bruins got the ball back with 3:21 remaining, but they dug themselves into an ugly first and 30 situation in their own territory and couldn’t fight their way out.

Box Score Hero:

Taylor Kelly led the Sun Devils in both passing and rushing, throwing for 226 yards and rushing for 97, adding a touchdown each way. UCLA linebacker/running back phenom Myles Jack was limited to only 86 yards and a touchdown.

Rankings Ramifications:

Both of these teams were ranked in the BCS standings entering this game, with UCLA at 14 and Arizona State at 17. Those rankings will flip, but it remains to be seen how high ASU can climb.

But Did They Cover?

Arizona State was a 3-point favorite at kickoff, so they covered the spread.
