Eric Ebron leaving UNC early for 2014 NFL Draft

The Tar Heels’ leading receiver is expected to be a first round draft pick.

Liz Condo-USA TODAY Sports

Star North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft, via UNC's official Twitter page.

Ebron has been the Tar Heels’ leading receiver this season and has helped the team go on a red-hot second half run. He has 50 receptions for 774 yards and three touchdowns this year -- with those first two numbers trailing just Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro among tight ends across the nation.

Late last month, Mocking the Draft highlighted Ebron as a player whose stock was rising and have slated him to go in the first round of the upcoming draft -- to the Jets, with the 22nd pick.

After starting the season 1-5, North Carolina has won five games in a row and looks to spoil rival Duke’s division title hopes this upcoming Saturday in the season finale.
