Michigan athletic director: Hoke ‘the right leader’ for Michigan football

The Wolverines’ head coach receives the dreaded vote of confidence via a strongly-worded blog post.

Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon published a strongly-worded blog post backing head coach Brady Hoke, in the newest twist of the dreaded vote of confidence. Brandon published the post on Michigan’s official athletics site.

Brady Hoke is our coach and will be leading our football program well into the future. There is no question about it. Brady has done a great job rebuilding the program and reshaping the culture to the level it was under coaches Bo Schembechler, Gary Moeller and Lloyd Carr. Anyone making efforts to stir up a coaching controversy at Michigan is ill-informed and is likely promoting a personal agenda that is not in the best interest of Michigan Football.

Hoke is in his third year as the Wolverines’ head coach, and has win total has decreased from each year to the next. After an 11-2 debut season, Michigan went 8-5 last year and is 7-4 this season, with a finale against Ohio State that does not look like a likely victory.

Brandon cited the case of Alabama’s Nick Saban, the winner of the last two national titles. The Tide finished fourth in their division in 2010 -- but Alabama still won ten games that year.

On Tuesday, five-star Michigan commit Jabril Peppers announced he was taking official visits to other schools, saying he wanted to make sure he had a landing place in case Hoke was fired.
