College football news: FSU and Michigan State beat rivals, Duke Johnson injured

Plus, GameDay’s location is announced.

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Here’s some of the biggest news stories that happened over the weekend, in addition to a full slate of games topped by big Florida State, Michigan State, and Georgia wins.

Miami

The Hurricanes lost to Florida State, as expected, but also lost star running back Duke Johnson, who appeared to suffer a serious leg injury late in the third quarter. Johnson’s mother wrote on Facebook that the running back is out for the season.

Wisconsin

Jared Abbrederis left Wisconsin's win over Iowa with a chest injury he received after catching a touchdown pass. Head coach Gary Andersen said after the game that Abbrederis didn't break anything and should be fine, but his status for the BYU game is still unknown.

Ohio State

Ohio State offensive lineman Taylor Decker is set to miss a few weeks after spraining his MCL during the Buckeyes' blowout win at Purdue. The consensus seems to be that he'll miss two games at most. That's certainly not a good thing, but it's better than the alternative.

Texas A&M

Running back Tra Carson suffered a scary injury during the fourth quarter of the Aggies’ blowout win over UTEP, and was carried off the field on a stretcher with an apparent neck injury. He tweeted after the game that he was fine.

Syracuse

The Orange had their unofficial induction into the conference Saturday, beating Wake Forest 13-0 in a #goacc battle of intense offensive inadequacy, but they also had an official induction, of sorts. The team retired former quarterback Donovan McNabb’s jersey during a ceremony at halftime.

Wake Forest

The Demon Deacons were on the losing end of that matchup with Syracuse, and it got worse -- star wide receiver Michael Campanaro broke his collarbone in the game and will be out four-to-six weeks.

GameDay

ESPN College GameDay is, unsurprisingly, headed to Tuscaloosa next weekend for the Alabama-LSU game. GameDay hasn’t been to Tuscaloosa since 2011 (somehow), but it really was the default choice with Baylor-Oklahoma and Oregon-Stanford both scheduled for Thursday night.

Tragedy

Division II Missouri Southern State lost assistant coach Derek Moore on Friday night after he was shot and killed outside a movie theatre in Joplin. The police have a suspect in custody, and while charges have yet to be filed, all indications are that they will be soon.
