Auburn vs. Tennessee final score: Tigers blow out the Vols, 55-23

The Tigers set a program record for points scored against Tennessee on Saturday, but things were tight early.

The Auburn Tigers blew the Tennessee Volunteers out of the water on the road on Saturday, winning 55-23 at Neyland Stadium. Things were tight early, but a big second quarter paved the way for an easy Auburn victory.

Tennessee actually looked quite good at first, and even held a 13-6 lead early in the second quarter. The Tigers turned it around after that, though, scoring four touchdowns in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 34-20 lead. Nick Marshall and Tre Mason accounted for three of those, and Chris Davis took a punt to the house from 85 yards out.

The game was effectively iced at the start of the second half, as Corey Grant took the opening kickoff back for a 96 yard touchdown return. After that, Mason added his second and third touchdowns of the game to turn it into a laugher.

Today’s 55 points represent the most points Auburn has ever scored against Tennessee, and it’s hard to believe that this team is only one year removed from going winless in SEC play.

Box Score Hero:

Marshall only threw the ball six times on Saturday, but he rushed for 214 yards and scored three total touchdowns. Mason also scored three touchdowns and added 117 yards for the Tigers, but Rajion Neal deserves some praise too. The Vols' primary running back rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort.

Rankings Ramifications:

The Tigers entered the game ranked 9th in the BCS standings, and should get a bump with the win.

But Did They Cover?

Auburn was an eight point favorite at kickoff, so they covered the spread easily.
