Virginia Tech showcased an explosive offense that no one knew they had in a dominant 42-24 road win against the No. 11 Miami Hurricanes. The Hokies' 549 yards of total offense was their highest output since Oct. 16, 2010 against Wake Forest.

The Hokies rode their best offensive performance since October of 2010 to a convincing upset win against Miami.
Logan Thomas’ inability to meet first-round draft pick expectations has been a running joke in college football over the past few seasons, but there was nothing funny about what Thomas did to the Hurricanes’ secondary on Saturday night. The same quarterback who threw four interceptions against Duke two weeks ago absolutely carved up Miami (in the pouring rain, no less) on the way to perhaps the most impressive performance of his career.
With Duke Johnson out for the year with an ankle injury, Miami was able to do very little against the vaunted Virginia Tech defense. The Hurricanes managed just 1.6 yards per carry on the ground and were held to just nine first downs prior to a pretty successful drive with less than a minute to go and the game already well in hand.
Box Score Hero: Logan Thomas completed 25 of 31 passes for 366 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: Miami came in ranked at No. 11 in the BCS standings. With the loss, the Hurricanes will likely fall at least into the high teens. Virginia Tech’s pair of bad losses in the previous two weeks (Duke, Boston College) will probably prevent the Hokies from cracking the top 25.
The Hokies’ win creates a situation where there are four teams with two conference losses in the ACC Coastal. VT, Miami, Georgia Tech and Duke are all in the mix.
But Did They Cover? Miami was favored to win the game and outscore Virginia Tech by five points. They accomplished neither.

Next Week's Schedule: Virginia Tech returns to the friendly confines of Lane Stadium to host Maryland. Miami will travel to Durham, NC to take on the resurgent Duke Blue Devils.
