5-star QB Will Grier sticking with Florida despite fired OC

One of Florida’s 15 commits has re-affirmed his pledge to the program.

Florida’s dismissal of offensive coordinator Brent Pease may have an effect on some recruits, but five-star quarterback Will Grier is not one of them. Grier’s father gave a statement to Luke Stampini of 247sports, saying the Gator commit will not change his mind on his collegiate destination.

“We ... have faith in [Muschamp] that he will do what he thinks is best for the program. More than anything Will is excited to become a student athlete at UF.”

Grier, from Davidson Day (N.C.) High School, is considered the third-best pro-style prospect in the nation and the best player in the state, according to the 247sports composite. He also received offers from Auburn and Tennessee, among others, with interest from Clemson, Florida State, Oregon and USC.

The Gators' offense ranked last in the SEC in scoring offense this season, and 12th in the conference in passing offense. With injuries taking out Jeff Driskel and Tyler Murphy, freshman Skyler Mornhingweg was forced to play in the last three games of the season, throwing three touchdowns against one interception.

Florida’s recruiting class ranks 12th in the nation and sixth in the SEC according to the composite, and has 15 prospects pledged to the program.
