Byron Marshall likely to return for Oregon vs. Texas in Alamo Bowl

Thomas Tyner has an injured hamstring but is expected to play.

When the Alamo Bowl matchup was announced, one question seemed key to the outcome of the game -- could Texas's revamped rushing defense handled the dangerous Oregon ground attack. That task may be even harder, as leading rusher Byron Marshall looks likely to return for the Ducks, via the Oregonian.

Marshall suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Oregon’s blowout loss to Arizona, missing the remainder of that game and the entirety of the next one against Oregon State. He finished the regular season with 955 rushing yards on 155 attempts, good for nearly 6.5 yards per rush, with 14 touchdowns.

Thomas Tyner, who ran for 140 yards in Marshall's stead against the Beavers, has an injured hamstring but is expected to play in the game. Between Marshall, Tyner, De'Anthony Thomas and Marcus Mariota, the 81st-ranked Texas rushing defense (giving up more than 180 yards per game) could have a difficult time in San Antonio.
