Oregon DB Troy Hill arrested for assault, suspended indefinitely

It seems unlikely that Hill plays in the Alamo Bowl against Texas after being arrested on Friday.

Troy Hill, a junior defensive back at the University of Oregon, was arrested by Eugene Police on Friday for menacing and fourth degree assault.

Hill spent the weekend in jail, according to police records, and pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor menacing and criminal mischief charges on Monday. Oregon has suspended him indefinitely from all football activities. It seems unlikely he will be able to play in the Alamo Bowl against the Texas Longhorns on Dec. 30.

Via CSN Northwest, UO coach Mark Helfrich released a statement on Hill:

“We are aware of the incident and charges involving Troy Hill and he is suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities,” Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said through an Oregon spokesperson. “We expect every member of our program to hold themselves to a high standard of conduct and to represent this University with class, pride and integrity. We will wait until the legal process has concluded before making any final determination of Troy Hill’s status.”

Hill was not a starter for the Ducks in 2013, though he appeared in 11 of the team’s 12 games after playing frequently during his first two seasons in Eugene. He saw a lot of time at cornerback and returned kicks on occasion this year, recording 29 total tackles and forcing a fumble.
