4-star D.J. Pettway returning to Alabama after arrest

Pettway was dismissed from the university in February after being arrested for robbery. He’s now back with the Crimson Tide, joining the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class for 2014.

D.J. Pettway spent a season at Alabama as an All-SEC Freshman nomination before being dismissed from the university for his involvement in an on-campus robbery. After spending a year at Eastern Mississippi Community College as a JuCo All-American, he has officially re-signed his national letter of intent to return to Tuscaloosa.

Pettway will have two years of eligibility remaining under Nick Saban. During his freshman campaign with the Crimson Tide, he recorded seven tackles (including three for a loss) and 1.5 sacks while serving as a backup defensive end.

Coming out of high school, Pettway was regarded as one of the top defensive line recruits in the country. He now re-joins Alabama’s top-ranked recruiting class for 2014.

Wednesday was the first day junior college players could sign their letters of intent. Jarran Reed, a four-star defensive tackle and teammate of Pettway at Eastern Mississippi C.C., also signed with the Crimson Tide.
