Colorado Mines’ Bob Stitt interested in Wyoming coaching position, report says

The innovator of the Fly-Sweep play could be taking his talents to the FBS level.

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

In good news for football fans, Colorado Mines head coach and offensive genius Bob Stitt reportedly has interest in the vacant job at Wyoming, according to the Denver Post.

News broke Sunday that Dave Christensen would not return to Wyoming following a 27-35 record over five years with the program.

Stitt’s offense revolves around the Fly-Sweep play, brought to the public’s attention in the 2012 Orange Bowl by West Virginia.

Stitt’s best season came in 2004, when the Orediggers went 11-0, winning their first conference title in nearly 50 years, and saw quarterback Chad Friehauf throw for 4,646 yards and win the Harlon Hill Trophy (D-II’s equivalent of the Heisman).

Over 14 years with Mines, Stitt has a 98-60 career record, and has gained a reputation as one of the pre-eminent offensive minds in the country. Sam Houston State head coach Willie Fritz has also been rumored to be a candidate for the position.
