Arizona State likely without star RB Marion Grice vs. Texas Tech

The Sun Devils will have to make do without their explosive, all-purpose back, who’s still suffering from a leg injury.

Arizona State will have to do without their best offensive player in the Holiday Bowl, as Marion Grice is doubtful to play due to a leg injury, according to azcentral's Doug Haller. Grice missed ASU's game against Arizona and the Pac-12 title game with the injury, and recovery has been slower than the team hoped.

Despite missing the last two games of the season, Grice still finished with 20 total touchdowns, a third of ASU's team total. He averaged over 176 all purpose yards per game this season, and is one of the best all-around offensive threats in the country. The Sun Devils will rely on D.J. Foster and Deantre Lewis in his absence. Both are averaging over five yards per carry this year, so they're hardly chopped liver, but they simply don't change the game in multiple ways like Grice can.

One thing that will help Arizona State’s offense is that their opponent in the Holiday Bowl, Texas Tech, does not possess the strongest defense. They gave up nearly 4.5 yards per carry this season, so the Sun Devils should be able to run the ball even without Grice.
