Oregon leads Texas at halftime, 20-7

The Oregon Ducks' explosive offense (and defense) was just too much for Texas in the first half of the Alamo Bowl. At the half, UO holds a 20-7 lead.

It took the Ducks all of 68 seconds to reach the end zone, though it came on defense. Avery Patterson intercepted an errant throw from Case McCoy and returned it 37 yards to the house to take an early 7-0 lead. Oregon then hit a 25-yard field goal to push the lead to 10-0 just a couple of minutes into the game.

Texas battled back with a 16-play drive that was capped off with a 1-yard touchdown run from McCoy. After drilling another field goal, the Ducks scored their first offensive touchdown with just 44 seconds left in the half on a shovel pass from Marcus Mariota to Josh Huff from 16 yards out.

While the Ducks may lead at halftime, All-Pac-12 offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone is done for the night with a right knee injury. Johnstone started all 12 games at left tackle this season. The Longhorns have injury concerns of their own as backup cornerback Duke Thomas is out for the game with an ankle injury.

Oregon will get the football to begin the third quarter.
