Big Ten Championship 2013 odds and trends: Trends favor Spartan cover

Don’t be surprised if the game is higher scoring than you might first imagine.

Ohio State’s path to a national title game has only one obstacle left -- a stout Michigan State team with one of the best defenses in the nation. Make sure to head to OddsShark for all your betting needs.

The line opened with the Buckeyes as a 6.5-point favorite, but that has since moved Michigan State’s way. The Spartans are now either 5.5- or 6-point underdogs, depending on the bookmaker. The over opened at 51.5 points, and has stayed steady at that mark.

The Big Ten has a reputation of defensive-based football (and looking at Michigan State you can see why), but be wary of assuming that in this one. The first two title games went way over the total, and we could see a high-scoring affair on Saturday.

In their last 10 games as underdogs, Michigan State has covered the spread eight times and pushed it once. They’ve won their last nine conference games, covering the spread in seven of them.

Against the Spartans, Ohio State has won eight of their last ten. They’ve won their past 24 games -- the longest winning streak in the nation -- but have failed to cover the spread in each of their last three conference games.
