Chris Petersen hired by Washington
The White Whale of college football coaching has been lured away from Boise, as former Bronco head man Chris Petersen has taken the job at Washington. The choice is considerably interesting considering that Petersen reportedly withdrew his name from consideration for the USC job -- which former Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian took.
UCF headed to the BCS
Heading into this weekend, it was all but guaranteed that the UCF Golden Knights would play in a BCS Bowl game. In order for another team to take the AAC spot, UCF would have to lose at SMU, Cincinnati would have to beat Louisville and the Bearcats would have to finish higher than the Golden Knights in the BCS standings. With Louisville’s Thursday night win over Cincinnati, that’s not an issue -- UCF is going BCS bowling.
Louisville going to the Russell Athletic Bowl
After their win, the Cardinals accepted a bid to the Russell Athletic Bowl, who gets first dibs after the BCS. They’ll play against the third-selected ACC team -- likely Miami, Virginia Tech or Duke.
Cal field gets new sponsor
The Golden Bears will now be playing at Kabam Field, which sounds like it requires an exclamation point, but is instead named after a video game company.

The American Athletic Conference has announced its bowl ties for the next six years, adding the New Orleans Bowl and, most notably, announcing that the conference has the right to assign teams “as they see fit.”
