College football news: No Jameis Winston charges, Petersen hired by Washington

UCF is going BCS bowling, and other news from around the country.

Sam Greenwood

Jameis Winston not charged with sexual assault

The Florida State quarterback and Heisman front runner will not be charged with any crime related to a sexual assault investigation from late last year.

Chris Petersen hired by Washington

The White Whale of college football coaching has been lured away from Boise, as former Bronco head man Chris Petersen has taken the job at Washington. The choice is considerably interesting considering that Petersen reportedly withdrew his name from consideration for the USC job -- which former Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian took.

UCF headed to the BCS

Heading into this weekend, it was all but guaranteed that the UCF Golden Knights would play in a BCS Bowl game. In order for another team to take the AAC spot, UCF would have to lose at SMU, Cincinnati would have to beat Louisville and the Bearcats would have to finish higher than the Golden Knights in the BCS standings. With Louisville’s Thursday night win over Cincinnati, that’s not an issue -- UCF is going BCS bowling.

Louisville going to the Russell Athletic Bowl

After their win, the Cardinals accepted a bid to the Russell Athletic Bowl, who gets first dibs after the BCS. They’ll play against the third-selected ACC team -- likely Miami, Virginia Tech or Duke.

Cal field gets new sponsor

The Golden Bears will now be playing at Kabam Field, which sounds like it requires an exclamation point, but is instead named after a video game company.
