If the stakes weren’t already high enough when Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play, there will be yet another huge storyline to follow on Saturday afternoon: a bid to a BCS bowl game is on the line.

The Cowboys will be playing for a bid to a BCS bowl game when they welcome in the Sooners on Saturday afternoon.

If Oklahoma State wins, it’ll be Big 12 champions for the second time in three years and will receive an automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl. If the Cowboys lose, it’ll be the winner of Saturday’s Baylor-Texas showdown who’s headed for a BCS showdown. With both teams having a bye week to prepare for this one, we should be in for a terrific game.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Oklahoma State comes in with a 10-1 record and ranked No. 6 in the BCS. Oklahoma is 9-2 and ranked No. 17 in the BCS. The Sooners have dominated the Bedlam series over the years, holding a 83-17-7 record over their in-state foes. OU has won nine of the last 10 meetings.
Vegas: Oklahoma State opened as a 10.5-point favorite.
Weather: It’ll be a sunny but chilly day for football with temperatures in the 30s at kickoff.
Three names to know
Clint Chelf - Chelf didn't even begin the season as Oklahoma State's starting quarterback, but he sure has taken over the job the last two months. The senior has thrown for 1,592 yards, 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions this season, and he seems to get better every week.
Desmond Roland - Roland has seen his workload increase as the season has moved along, and he now leads the Cowboys with 601 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has two touchdown receptions out of the backfield.
Brennan Clay - OU likes to run the football, and Clay leads the team with 134 carries. He's coming off a monster 200-yard performance against Kansas State and will need to have another big day against OSU if the Sooners hope to pull the upset.
Two things at stake
A win for Oklahoma State clinches the Big 12 championship and sends the Cowboys to the Fiesta Bowl as the Big 12 champion.
A win for Oklahoma wouldn’t win the team a Big 12 title, though it would go a long way in helping out the Sooners’ bowl résumé and would open the door for the winner of this afternoon’s Baylor-Texas game to claim the automatic bid.
