2013 Alamo Bowl, Oregon vs. Texas: TV time, team profiles and more

Which Ducks team shows up? Which Longhorns team shows up? The only thing we know is this: you should show up to your television.

The Alamo Bowl has historically been one of the more exciting bowl matchups, pitting one of the top Big 12 teams against a marquee opponent. For years, it was a Big 12 vs. Big Ten game, but for the past three seasons, the B1G has been replaced by a Pac-12 team. Past Alamo Bowl MVPs include Drew Brees, LaVar Arrington and Colt McCoy.

To our disappointment, the game is not actually held in the Alamo. Remember the Alamo, but more importantly, remember the Alamo Bowl, y’all.

The Oregon Ducks slumped toward the end of the year, looking understandably lethargic after their loss to Stanford -- they would eventually lose another game to Arizona, and very nearly to both Utah and rival Oregon State, as well.

Still, do not take those recent struggles to mean that Oregon isn’t still dangerous. The Ducks very, very much are, thanks to an offense that ranks second in the country and third in scoring. Oh, and the defense isn’t too bad either, ranking at a stout 25th in the country in points allowed.

The former unit is keyed by quarterback Marcus Mariota, who fell out of the Heisman race in recent weeks, but had a stellar season in total, throwing for over 3,400 yards and 30 touchdowns. Other names to know on the Oregon offense span almost too many to list, but knowing running backs Byron Marshall (995 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns) and De’Anthony Thomas (581 yards, 8 touchdowns), as well as wide receiver Josh Huff (1,036 yards, 11 touchdowns) would be a good start. On the other side of the ball, defensive end Tony Washington (7.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss) and NFL prospect/cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (78 tackles, 9 passes defensed, 3 interceptions) have been huge playmakers too.

Texas (8-4, 7-2 Big 12)

Three weeks into the season, disaster was a reality for Texas. An opening win over New Mexico State was easy, but the Longhorns followed that up with blowout losses to BYU and Ole Miss, with the latter taking place at home. Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was fired, with Greg Robinson brought in to replace him, and fortune suddenly changed.

Texas won its next six games in a row, including a 16-point win over rival (and ranked) Oklahoma, to secure a winning season after the worst was feared. The last part of the schedule didn’t go so well, with a win against Texas Tech sandwiched by heavy losses to Oklahoma State and Baylor, and calls for Mack Brown’s job are once again heard around the state.

Last bowl game: 2012 Alamo Bowl vs. Oregon State, 31-27 win

Last year without a bowl: 2010

All-time bowl record: 27-22-2

Head coach’s bowl record: Mack Brown, 13-7
